Concerns at Old Trafford grew last weekend when speculation suggested that Tottenham were also lining up a move for Mbeumo. The north London club’s supposed interest was amplified by reports linking Brentford manager Thomas Frank with the top job at Spurs. However, those fears have been significantly eased following fresh information that any interest in Mbeumo is "highly unlikely," effectively ruling Spurs out of the race.
DID YOU KNOW?
Since arriving at Brentford in 2019 from French outfit Troyes for a modest £5.8 million ($8m) fee, Mbeumo has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s most reliable attackers. The 25-year-old has found the net 70 times in 242 appearances for the Bees, with 42 of those goals coming in just 136 league games. Hence, the Cameroonian forward has emerged as one of United's top targets as they look to fix a blunt frontline that netted only 44 goals during their dismal 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

With Tottenham no longer a threat, United are now in a strong position to secure Mbeumo's services. Talks are ongoing with Brentford, who continue to value their star attacker highly following his standout contributions over the last few seasons. While the £55m ($74.25m) opening bid was turned down, United are expected to return with an improved offer, especially with Ruben Amorim eager to conclude business early in the summer to allow for maximum preparation before the new season kicks off.
